anyway y'all are gonna get my unncessary cole cassidy backstory notes.
so basically i'm breaking up cassidy's backstory into the different personas he defines himself as during that time period in his life. currently there are 5 eras, with the 5th being this current cage-universe era.
ERAS:
CJ Cassidy III [age: birth through 15]
The Deadeye Kid or "Kidd" [age: 15-20]
Jesse McCree (deadname jumpscare) [age: 21-36]
Joel Morricone [age: 31-present day kinda]
Cole Cassidy (!! CURRENT ERA !!) [age: 37-present]
CJ CASSIDY III ERA
went by CJ or junior, even though he's a third because his grandfather stopped considering his father his son after he was born and his dad kept fucking up. really looked up to his grandfather and had strained relationships with both of his parents. after his grandfather's death, he started down a bad path as he had no guiding figure in his life.
IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIPS:
Grandma: Eliana “Silver” Cassidy (mn: Clearsky) (1977-2032; age at death 55)
Eliana was a force of a woman. She was from the Apache tribe in New Mexico, and she had storm grey eyes that always seemed to mirror the rare storms that overtook the area.
She was always the disciplinarian for their son Cole Jr (cj's father), and did partially regret when he began to go astray. She passed away 6 years before Cassidy was born and Cassidy Sr never married again.
Grandpa: Cole Justice Cassidy Sr. (1979—2055; age at death 76)
The man who really raised CJ and whom he has an extreme reverence for. Cassidy Sr. was a stoic man but he did have a soft spot for his grandson.
the mexican clan that would eventually become known as the cassidy’s used to rule the Old West back in the 1880s, or at least the part of Arizona that they reside in now; and it was when their first ancestor Judas (Jude) “Justice” Cassidy made contact with an ancient spirit of the West. Some say it was a demon, some an angel, some malevolent, some mischievous—either way the spirit challenged Jude to a shootout, which Jude won. Afterwhich, he fell into a trance and the spirit granted him the Deadeye ability. This ability passed down through the generations, when that fiery red and gold skull and crossbones appeared in his own son’s eye when he was 6 years old. Most Cassidy’s start showing their ability when they’re around 6 or 16 and Cassidy Sr was no different. The ability however, skipped Cole Jr (cj's father), and ended up getting passed to CJ.
Father: Cole Justice Cassidy Jr. (2022—2059; age at death 37)
Cassidy had a strained relationship with his father; he was a drunkard and beat his longterm partner (Selina Ballard) and was adulturous, and was overall a disappointment to Cassidy Sr.
CJ took up the same disdain for his father, and esp after his grandfather’s passing, he began to treat his father with more ire. The last time the two of them spoke, they actually came to blows over Cassidy joining a gang.
When his father passed away suddenly in a drunk driving accident (he was a trucker) when he was 19, Cassidy didn’t go to his funeral.
Mother: Selina Ballard (2024—2076; age at death 52)
A semi-neurotic, anxious woman who was raised in a religious commune with her parents up until she turned 14 and began public school after her parents took their own lives. Selina has always held fast to her religion, and has always tried to be chaste—at least until she met Cole Jr. She fell head over heels for him, and consequently did anything to get him to stay with her, which included losing her virginity at 16 and falling pregnant with their eventual son, CJ. She changed her religion to Catholicisim shortly after CJ’s birth, and lived with Cassidy Sr as he didn’t want the mother of his grandson to live on the streets, esp after he found out she was an orphan. The two steered clear of one another, but she always acknowledged that the man was a great influence on Cassidy’s life. Cassidy hasn’t spoken to his mother in years, and despite Reyes encouraging him in Blackwatch to try and reach out to her, its just not something he could ever bring himself to do. He always called her ‘mama’ and he carries with him a good helping of religious trauma which he doesn’t try to wade through—just feels like too much work.
Her passing occurs just when Overwatch is shut down by the PETRAS act. Cassidy takes the time to leave everything behind him (grieving heavily) and goes back to the states to bury her since he’s the only one she has left. The funeral arrangements were already set up, the Cassidy ranch sold off, and the only thing that Cassidy had left of any of his family aside from their memories are his mama’s rosary beads. He keeps them as a memento, even if he’s not religious.
THE DEADEYE KID ERA
After Cassidy Sr. passed away, Cassidy began to spiral. He was already a rambunctious kid who had a hard time sitting still, but without the guidance of his grandpa, and the mess of his family life between Cole Jr.’s drinking, and his mother’s religious fervency and anxiety around him doing anything outside of the home, he began to sneak out, run away, and get on the wrong side of the law.
It wasn’t long before he was doing small run ins with the local gang; the notorious Deadlock gang who had been operating around these parts since 1976. Eliana Cassidy (grandmother) had a few family members who were mixed in with the gang (though it was a life she herself avoided—she didn’t like taking orders, which is something Cassidy kinda gets from her) and so when little CJ started coming around, they opened their arms to him like he was a cousin. By the December of that year—The Alleyway Shootout as it would come to be called occurred, which led to Cassidy formally using his Deadeye ability for the first time to kill 3 police officers. The gang saw his ability and decided to take him under their wing formally, training him for bigger jobs and keeping him out of the clutches of the law. This is also where he began his eventual lengthy bounty. The mokier the cops gave him was “The Deadeye Kid” and it stuck. Elder gang members took to calling him “Kidd” because 1. Billy the Kid but 2. because at 15-16 he was the youngest member.
Kidd dropped out of HS at 17 and stopped returning home, never mind that his mama worried about him. The last time she reached out to him was at 19 when his father passed away in a DUI incident, and all he said was “Ma, ya know I ain’t comin’.” and he hung up on her. Whenever she tried to reach out, Kidd never responded.
Kidd rose the ranks of the gang pretty quickly; he became acquainted with their arms trade, became their enforcer whenever deals went south. the high that cassidy got from stealing, shootouts, joyriding and more just couldn’t be beat. and on top of this, his gang became his new family: sure, they treated him like shit sometimes and teased him something fierce when it was discovered that he was bi, but they cared about him and he cared about them. for the most part. the only time he doubted this is when he got into an argument with the leader of deadlock once; and in exchange, they got him jail time for about 6 months when he was 20… getting out just before they were fully apprehended by overwatch—so basically he got out of jail and was immediately taken in by head of blackwatch, Gabriel Reyes.
THE JESSE MCCREE (OVERWATCH) ERA
After being apprehended by Overwatch, Reyes offers Kidd two choices: join overwatch under his command, or rot in a jail cell for the rest of his natural born life. It was an easy answer, and since he's been left his true name behind, kidd now needed a new mask to wear; eventually settling on the name Jesse McCree. Under the watchful care of a few key Overwatch members, Jesse's morals, outlook on life, and skills begin to evolve once more.
IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIPS:
Gabriel Reyes ⟶ a mentor and father figure to jesse and the first one who really saw his true potential. he likes to claim that even if jesse said no to joining blackwatch he would’ve kept badgering him until he said yes. reyes always reminded jesse of his grandfather, even if he wasn’t as wise or as patient as the man. even still, having that strong presence in his life helped change his morals—even if he’s doing things “wrong” if those wrong things equate for the greater good, then that’s what matters. reyes saw jesse, towards the end of overwatch, as basically his own son.
Dr. Mina Liao / Echo ⟶ while jesse always had a hard time understanding what the hell dr. liao was always talking about whenrever she started rambling about omnics, ai, and engineering, he did know that she was a kind, bright soul and he really took a shine to her. in a strange way she reminded him of the kind of bright spark that his mama used to have before she met his dad and before she delved headfirst into a reductive religion. to jesse’s eyes, ai was basically like a religion to dr. liao, but one that she was taking part in understanding, learning, and shaping. consequently, he never had any issues helping her train with echo and really began to value her research for what it was: a way for humanity to move forward. he didn’t ever have strong opinions about omnics until he met dr. liao, but she shaped his view that so long as something has thoughts it has a soul and while he doesn’t consider himself religious that is something he holds onto. in the same vein, echo is special to him; he feels horrible about not being able to protect dr. liao and one of his many demons is wishing he knew who, what, or why the explosion in her lab took place.
Ana Amari ⟶ the kind of mother that jesse wishes that he had—he understands fareeha’s struggle with having a mother who pulls away from her but at the same time, if there’s anyone who truly shaped jesse, it’s ana. she learned of his deadeye and helped him hone it; training with him for hours and days on end to become a sharpshooter so that deadeye itself was only a last resort. she made sure he washed behind his ears, and said his please’s and thank yous; re-instilled the manners that he lost being in the gang for as long as he was. he’d move mountains for her and she knows it.
Genji Shimada ⟶ the two of them, similarly to hanzo and himself (in the future), did not start off on a good foot but this was mostly due to genji’s attitude and demons and less to do with jesse’s personally investment with his attitude problem. the one place where they seemed to find some sort of equal footing was during training sessions; genji would beat him up and then feel better enough to express himself a little bit, then he would close off and the cycle would continue. jesse can’t pinpoint exactly what made genji’s mold fully crack open and open up to him, but he assumes that part of it had to do with the fact that jesse helped him (along with blackwatch) dismantle the shimada clan. during genji’s darkest hours during their stings, jesse was the only person willing to get close enough to extend a hand to him; even reyes was decidedly more hands off with genji, just expecting him to perform. but jesse recognized that he was a man within his cybernetics, a hurting man. and that is partially why genji considers jesse/cassidy not only his closest friend, but damn near a brother.
Moira O’Deorain ⟶ moira always said that the ire jesse held for her is because she was uninterested in dressing up her controversial views and research in pretty clothes; such as many scientists like angela ziegler or dr. liao were wont to do. jesse never liked that not only did she rub him the wrong way, generally speaking, but the fact that her employment was a secret is something that jesse never agreed with—and was the first time that he and reyes butted heads (before rialto anyway). when he found out that moira was experimenting on some of the other blackwatch personnel he rose hell—but he never knew that reyes himself was part of those experiments.
Gerard Lacroix ⟶ jesse resected gerard and trusted his judgement. he felt definitely more like a boss that you wanted to be on your best behavior for and was shocked when he heard the news of his death; never mind the fact that his assassin was supposedly his own wife.
THE JOEL MORRICONE INTERLUDE (OVW TWILIGHT YEARS)
After the Venice or Rialto incident (used interchangably throughout Cage), Jesse McCree was sidelined from Overwatch as Blackwatch itself was dissolved. Because he is essentially in timeout for his role in the incident (never mind that he told Reyes this was a bad idea), Jesse decides to take time for himself and starts to travel on his own; creating the persona for himself Joel Morricone. Joel is the first truly civilian life that he's ever lived; but even then he can't help but involve himself in one of his best kept secrets, writing, by ending up becoming a journalist who especially defends Overwatch's actions. However, as bad influences begin to find the cracks in Overwatch's amror, he starts to wonder if he should strike out on his own as Joel Morricone for good.
IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIPS:
Lakeisha “Blue Jay” Thompson -> black canadian. As a jounalist who also sees the good in overwatch, after cashing in a few favors she unexpectedly meets one Joel Morricone at a bar after the press conference about the impending fate of ovw.One thing leads to another and they end up sleeping together, and then keep each other’s contact info and meet up a few more times. When lakeisha falls pregnant with their child. she debates heavily if she wants to keep it, or even tell Joel about it, yet, when overwatch is outlawed by the PETRAs act and she decides that she’s going to retire from journalism and consequently, keep the baby. she tries to reach out to Joel to tell him, but he seems to have all but disappeared and she wonders if its because of overwatch’s disbandment and because he was such a staunch supporter if he’s laying low to avoid the heat. she decides then to go back to canada and begins to raise their daughter on their own. something she does remember from the times that they were together is joel mentioning that justice was a family name for him, so she decides to name the baby when she’s born raleigh justice.
Raleigh Justice Thompson aka “RJ” — 4yo; Joel (or Cassidy tm) currenlty doesn't know she exists but Oh Boy when he finds out--
CURRENT CAGE/SCHISM ERA
When Overwatch implodes literally (with the explosion at Swiss HQ) and figuratively, Jesse McCree has no choice but to lay low, or face the music and turn himself into authorities. The Joel persona becomes an afterthought as he feels he needs to do something with this anger and misplaced frustration, so he ends up becoming a vigilante for a few years to earn money, and to take justice into his own hands in his own way, since the UN seems to have no interest in doing so. Things come crashing down when he's confronted about his true heritage by a contact he makes during this time, and are further complicated when Winston launches the recall. However, his guilt in his "old" age have begun to really gnaw at him--so he decides to go back; dropping his old monikers behind, and finally going by Cole Cassidy for the first time in his life.
#this is so much and i'm not even story#this mf and hanzo are basically my ocs at this poitn OJDL#ff: cage#if you read this you're insane#but thanks

Ben Johnson, Warren Oates, William Holden, and Ernest Borgnine in The Wild Bunch (Sam Peckinpah, 1969)
Cast: William Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan, Edmond O’Brien, Warren Oates, Jaime Sánchez, Ben Johnson, Emilio Fernández, Strother Martin, L.Q. Jones, Albert Dekker, Bo Hopkins, Dub Taylor. Screenplay: Walon Green, Sam Peckinpah, based on a story by Green and Roy N. Sickner. Cinematography: Lucien Ballard. Art direction: Edward Carrere. Film editing: Lou Lombardo. Music: Jerry Fielding.
"It ain't like it used to be, but it'll do." The last line of The Wild Bunch, spoken by Edmond O'Brien's Sykes, sums up the film's prevailing sense that something has been lost, namely, a kind of innocence. Myths of lost innocence are as old as the Garden of Eden, and the Western as genre has always played on that note of something unspoiled being swept away with the frontier, though seldom with such eloquent violence as Peckinpah's film. Notice, for example, how many children appear in the movie, often in harm's way, as if their innocence was under attack. The film begins with a group of children at play, but what they're playing with is a scorpion being tormented by a nest of ants. Finally, after the grownups have had a major shootout, endangering other innocents, including a mostly female prohibitionist group, the children set fire to their little game, creating a neat image of hell that sets the tone for the rest of the film. Children, Peckinpah seems to be saying, have only a veneer of innocence, one that's easily removed. So we have children not only under fire but also sometimes doing the firing. They treat the torture of Angel (Jaime Sánchez) as a game, running after the automobile that is dragging him around the village. Not many films use violence for such integral purpose, and not many films have been so wrong-headedly criticized for being violent. Before it was re-released in 1995, Warner Bros. submitted the newly extended cut of the film to the ratings board, which tried to have it labeled NC-17 -- usually a kiss of death because many newspapers refused to advertise movies with that rating. Ordinarily, I'd applaud any effort by the board to treat violence with the same strictness that it treats sex and language, but this decision only emphasizes the shallow, formulaic nature of the board's rulings. An appeal resulted in overturning the rating, so the film was released with an R. Film violence has escalated so much in recent years that if it weren't for the bare breasts in some scenes, The Wild Bunch might get a PG-13 today. I also think the real reason for the emphasis on violence in commentaries on The Wild Bunch is a puritanical one: The movie is too much fun for some people to take seriously. It has superbly staged action scenes, like the hijacking of the train and the demolition of the bridge. And it has entertaining, career-highlight performances by William Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Warren Oates, Ben Johnson, and Robert Ryan. The cinematography by Lucien Ballard and the Oscar-nominated score by Jerry Fielding are exceptional. And it's "just a Western," so no high-toned viewers need take it seriously, though surprisingly the Academy did nominate Peckinpah, Walon Green, and Roy N. Sickner for the writing Oscar. They lost to William Goldman for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, a movie that feels flimsier as every year goes by.

Who is Lenwood Ballard “L.B.” Abbott? #lbabbott #toratoratora #academyawards #60smovies #70smovies Abbott, L.B. (1908-1985) Lenwood Ballard Abbott, commonly known as L.B., was a cameraman who became known for his "trick shots" and discovered new types of photographic special effects. For example, while working on the 1970 movie Tora! Tora! Tora!, he learned that by filming the explosion of miniatures at an extremely fast speed, the size and power of the display appeared to be magnified. Abbott won an Academy Award for his work on Tora! Tora! Tora!, as well as for work on Dr. Doolittle (1967), The Poseidon Ad- venture (1972), and Logan's Run (1976). He was also nominated for his work on Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959). His other films include Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1961), Cleopatra (1963), The Sound of Music (1965), Fantastic Voyage (1966), Planet of the Apes (1968), The Towering In- ferno (1974), and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969). Abbott alsoworked on such television series as Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and Lost in Space. Born in 1908, Abbott was the son of a silent-film cinematographer and began his own career as a cameraman when he was only 18. In 1957 he became head of special ef- fects at 20h Century Fox studios, where he remained until his retirement. Abbott died in 1985. Lenwood Ballard Abbott, commonly known as L.B. Abbott, was a renowned cameraman and special effects artist born in 1908. Abbott made significant contributions to the field of photographic special effects, earning recognition for his innovative "trick shots." One of his notable achievements was discovering that filming explosions of miniatures at extremely high speeds created the illusion of larger and more powerful displays, a technique he utilized in the 1970 film Tora! Tora! Tora! Abbott won Academy Awards for his work on Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970), Dr. Doolittle (1967), The Poseidon Adventure (1972), and Logan's Run (1976). JVSONS’ REQUESTS
Below i will be listing my do’s and dont’s about my requests, just so no mishaps occur. (hopefully)
PROMT IDEAS • (read below before requesting)
// Kisses
// Kisses (2)
// Hugs
// Touching
// Fluffy sentence starters
// Intimacy
BEFORE REQUESTING •
Please read my DNI criteria post before requesting, the last thing I need is someone of the unnerving type prompting me to write. Also, please DON’T send me request you’ve already sent to other accounts!
DO NOT REPEAT REQUESTS •
Please refrain from repeating requests if they are not answered. I usually have over 20 to write, so I am not ignoring you, just busy. I have seen it, and will get to it!
FEEL FREE TO •
Don’t hesitate to ask me any questions about my writing, and or just DC/random things in general! I’m always happy to talk about stuff like that. If you have a prompt, go right ahead and use it, and be as specific as you’d like.
FANDOMS/ CHARACTERS I WRITE FOR
• DC | jason todd, dick grayson, bruce wayne, tim drake, slade wilson, jonothan crane/scarecrow, harvey dent
• RESIDENT EVIL | leon kennedy, carlos olivera, ethan winters (will most likely be posted on AO3)
• DETROIT BECOME HUMAN | connor, ralph, simon, gavin reed (will most likely be posted on AO3)
OTHER FANDOMS/ CHARACTERS I WOULD LOVE TO TALK ABOUT
• Marvel (Spider Man, possibly Daredevil)
• Stranger Things (Steve Harrington, Jonathan Byers, Peter Ballard, Dmitri Antonov/Enzo)
• Overwatch (Cassidy Cole, Hanzo Shimada, Genji Shimada)
• Apex Legends (Crypto, Mirage, Revenant, Bloodhound, Ash)
(This list isn’t dead-set, so If I didn’t mention something/someone here and you were curious about if I wrote for it, send in an ask!)
WHAT I WILL NOT ACCEPT FOR REQUESTS •
Any subject involving racism, homophobia, xenophobia, pedophilia, stereotyping, you get the point. Absolutely no requests about anything in regards to shipping the batboys, it’s incest, don’t even bother bringing it up to me. I will also not abide to requests involving romantic pairings of people with any family ties, as that is a discomfort for me. As a random sidenote, I will NOT write about real people, and don’t exactly feel comfortable writing about pregnancy. Lastly, I only write x readers, but you can definitely talk to me about things that aren’t fanfic related!
REGARDING SMUT •
Although you can ask for LIGHTLY suggestive content, I will refuse to write smut. I will not write anything explicitly sexual, and will only make references to said themes if it is necessary. Sexual themed requests are okay with me as long as they’re not pure smut, and don’t focus entirely on the idea of sexual content. If you’re ever unsure about whether your request is okay, just ask! “This was all your idea. The bet, I mean. You should see it through.”
She wrenches her hand from my grasp and turns just enough to shoot me a truly scathing glare before she straightens. “Alright, then — Prince Cassidy, as the losing party it is time that you pony up.”
Cassidy grins and stands. “Fair enough. This won’t take long.” And without so much as a breath of hesitation, without even looking around to locate her, he turns around and kneels down before Clemence. Amidst a slowly rising tide of whispers, he says: “Lady Clemence, I can think of no hand fairer, no mouth as sweet. If there is another soul approaching your wit and poise, then your beauty has blinded me to them. Would you give me the pleasure of your company during the approaching festivities?”
I shrink back, embarrassed to even be listening to such effuse flirtation. Cassidy seems to bear no embarrassment for his words. His back is turned to me and so I cannot see his face, but I have a very good view of Clemence. She beholds him coolly from over her rounded nose, her head tilted back ever so slightly, her expression just as inscrutable as ever. Gossip swells around her, excited murmurings and stifled laughter, and all of it so poorly hushed.
“How could I ever rebuff such an audacious entreaty? My dear prince, you need not have gone to such lengths to endear yourself to me. I would be more than happy to accompany you — although I do have a request of my own.”
Cassidy bows his head. “Ask what you will.”
Clemence’s full lips curve into the barest of smiles. “I must admit myself to be something of a hopeless romantic. Not a day has passed since my egress from Voswain that I did not think upon my dear prince’s... horse. That lovely dappled coat and regal disposition — there’s not another like her. It would please me greatly if you gave her into my care.”
The room falls into that sort of strange, fulsome silence that contains many things unspoken. The air is tight with it, stretched to bursting with unspent words.
“My lady,” Cassidy begins — and I wonder, do I hear a slight tremor to his voice? He takes her hand in his own and presses it to his lips. “If that is your wish, then so be it. She is yours for the keeping.”
“Thank you,” Clemence replies. “I shall enjoy her immensely.” She bends, then, and presses her lips to the prince’s cheek. When she rises, they go together, Cassidy taking to her side, his hand still clasped around hers. He grins shamelessly out at the crowd.
“Well, then, that’s settled, isn’t it?” He fixes his eyes upon first Lysithea and then myself. “What say the both of you — was that public enough? Or should I beseech her before the court in its entirety?”
“No! No, that was fine, thanks!” I exclaim, somehow more flustered than either he or Clemence. I turn away quickly so I don’t have to look at them anymore and in doing so catch sight of Allene’s face. She’s staring at her brother with a sort of weary resignation.
“That was quite sufficient,” Lysithea agrees. “And I appreciate your commitment to the bet.”
Cassidy laughs. “It’s nothing I wouldn’t have done regardless.” His hand has moved to Clemence’s shoulder. She reaches back and pinches the skin behind his knuckles and he drops it.
“But his horse, Clemence? Really?” Allene surveys her brother and his partner with an expression of steadily waxing disgust. “What are you going to do with an extra horse?”
I’m not certain if the bend of Clemence’s lips is pronounced enough to call a smile, but it is there all the same. “Well, Lady Ballard did say His Highness ought to ‘pony up.’”
With a smirk, Cassidy picks up Clemence’s lead, “And where Lady Ballard has commended me for committing to the bet, I must in turn applaud Lady Clemence’s commitment… to the bit.”
“Laws and stone, I hate you both,” Allene breathes.
I flee the room immediately.

(OFFICIALLY) INTRODUCING : SILAS LEVAY
his name is actually christopher silas levay jr., the same as his father, but he’s gone by silas his whole life, while his father goes by chris. most people forget that silas isn’t his given name.
was born and raised in montana on his family’s cattle ranch with his younger brother, sam.
the ranch is sizeable, the levay’s are in no way hurting for money, but nor are they in short of work to do. it’s mostly family run, the few hired hands they have even are mostly distant cousins or the relatives of family friends.
silas is bisexual, has known this since his early teens, and in fact spent most of his teens actively in love with his best friend. strangely enough, it wasn’t just teenage pining, silas knew micah had feelings for him too, but between the time period and the conservative area, as well as the fact that they both knew that silas was never going to leave town and micah was never going to stay, they actively tried to move past the feelings, and remain best friends to this day.
he’d just barely made it out of high school before his dad started to get sick and he started to take on more and more responsibilities around the ranch. seven years later he found out that his father had received a parkinson’s diagnosis and never told anyone.
by the time he’s twenty five he’s basically (if not officially) running it himself with minimal help from his brother while his mother cares for his deteriorating father.
he starts dating claire ralson, a journalist in town who just so happens to be micah’s younger sister. he proposes after two years together, they’re engaged for almost another year, until a month before the wedding when claire unexpectedly runs off with sam, revealing that they’d been having an affair for most of her and silas’ relationship.
claire and sam elope and have a daughter only a few months later and it kind of kills something inside silas to know that he can’t be sure she’s not his and that even if she was there would be little he could do about it. thankfully they’re long out of state by then so he doesn’t dwell on it often.
after his relationship with claire falls apart, micah returns home from where he’d been living on the east coast, both helping out around the ranch and also providing moral support.
his relationship with his father is strained, chris sr. is a gruff, stubborn, hot tempered older man. there was never any kind of intentional hurt or abuse (outside of the borderline stereotypical uncomfortable chores to ‘build character’) but he’s very much the kind who sees a lack of criticism as praise in and of itself, and was never very affectionate with his kids. silas understood him more than sam, and was often the mediator between the two. their relationship gets strained as his father begins to physically weaken and silas has to take over more (i’ll probably write a whole post on this at some point).
he’s longtime friends with cassidy ballard. cass owns a diner in town. they may or may not have a sporadic friends with benefits thing going on.
idk man silas just really needs a full night’s sleep and a hug
more tba

Blu-ray Review: Ghosts of Mars
Is subpar John Carpenter better than no John Carpenter? 2001's Ghosts of Mars is arguably the weakest effort from the master of horror who gave us such classics as Halloween, The Thing, Escape from New York, and The Fog; but, nearly a decade removed from his last film (2010's The Ward), fans - myself included - are clamoring to see Carpenter return to the director's chair. When it comes to Ghosts of Mars, does absence makes the heart grow fonder, as the old adage goes?
While I hesitate to use the word "bad," Ghosts of Mars remains a disenchanting viewing experience. Despite working with one of the biggest budgets of his career ($28 million), Carpenter is unable to deliver much of interest. The horror and science fiction elements are minimal, largely used as a conduit for an action plot, yet the few and far between action set pieces are largely underwhelming; standard gun and hand-to-hand combat. That just leaves a lot of exposition.
It wouldn't be so bad if the story was compelling, but it's told in too maladroit a manner to get invested in. Set in 2176, Ghosts of Mars follows a police unit led by Lieutenant Melanie Ballard (Natasha Henstridge, Species), Commander Helena Braddock (Pam Grier, Jackie Brown), and Sargent Jericho Butler (Jason Statham, The Meg) as they transport a prisoner, Desolation Williams (Ice Cube, Anaconda), across the red planet, which is 84% terraformed with an Earth-like atmosphere for its 640,000 colonists.
The ghosts in question are a breed of airborne spirits that possess people, forcing the hosts to mutilate themselves and then others. It begins with the group of miners who unwittingly unearth them and rapidly spreads in numbers until there's a seemingly unstoppable horde of haunted meat puppets. With special effects makeup by KNB EFX Group (Kill Bill, Scream), they look like a cross between Hellraiser's cenobites and Mad Max 2 cyberpunks, with a leader, Big Daddy Mars (stuntman Richard Cetrone), who too closely resembles Marilyn Manson.
The film is book-ended by a courtroom hearing in which Ballard tells the story of how she's the lone survivor of what was supposed to be a routine prisoner transfer. I suspect it was Carpenter and co-writer Larry Sulkis's (who previously did uncredited work on Carpenter's Village of the Damned) attempt to build intrigue with a misdirect, but it only impedes the pacing. Then, within the story Ballard tells, there’s an abundance of additional flashbacks. Rather than just experience the story as it unfolds, any time one character questions another about what has occurred, viewers are subjected to a recollection of the events.
Henstridge feels a bit miscast in the lead. The model-turned-actress excelled in Species because the role almost exclusively relied on physical expression, but she stumbles when faced with Ghost of Mars' abundance of exposition; a challenge for any actor. The fun supporting cast bolsters her up, though. A pre-shaved head Statham is shoehorned in as a would-be love interest, but he still carries his own. Cube utilizes his arrogant, tough-guy persona along with a touch of humor. Grier, although underutilized, is a treat to watch in her militant part. Clea DuVall (The Faculty) is typecast as the stereotypical lesbian, while Joanna Cassidy (Blade Runner) pops up as a scientist.
Carpenter reteams with Gary B. Kibbe (They Live, Escape from L.A.) - his regular cinematographer for the latter part of his career - so at least the film looks good. Carpenter also composed the score, but don't expect his traditional, atmospheric synthesizer work. A small portion of that is present, but Carpenter collaborated with heavy metal luminaries Anthrax, Buckethead, and Steve Vai to record the soundtrack. It's an interesting experiment on its own, but the screeching guitars often sound out of place in the context of the movie.
Ghosts of Mars received a Region B Blu-ray with a few more bells and whistles from Indicator not too long ago, but Mill Creek's new release is available for a fraction of the cost. The transfer itself looks sharp, although some slight compression is noticeable. It also features a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack not available on Sony's previous domestic release. Archival special features are ported over, including an audio commentary with Carpenter and Hendstridge, a 17-minute making-of piece, a featurette on the score, and special effects deconstructions.
Carpenter occasionally sounds like he’s being forced to record commentaries against his will, but being joined by an actor seems to bring out his chattiness (see his tracks with Kurt Russell or Jamie Lee Curtis). His commentary with Henstridge is no exception; it’s more entertaining than the film itself. They have a fun and friendly rapport with plenty of good-natured ribbing back and forth between stories from the making of the film. Henstridge even points out the film's many flashback sequences and comments on Big Daddy's resemblance to Marilyn Manson, which Carpenter shrugs off.
Ghosts of Mars has shades of Escape from New York, the Western conventions he explored in vampires, and hints of The Fog's mystique and The Thing’s paranoia. Add to that an eclectic cast and then-modern production values, and it could have been another classic in the John Carpenter canon. Instead, however, it's more lifeless than the titular ghosts. Not only does it lack the style and atmosphere that made Carpenter's early work so effective, but it's also overwrought with exposition, an egregious amount of flashbacks, and clunky pacing.
Ghosts of Mars is available now on Blu-ray via Mill Creek Entertainment.

Its been a while since I asked you meta related things so I just had a random idea - top 5 characters which you just dont understand, top 5 ch which are well writen but you cant connect or like, top 5 ch storylines you would like to alter, top 5 traits of your disliked chracters that you like, top 5 traits of your loved characters you dislike, top 5 ways your disliked characters contributed to the main storyline that youre fine with. For males and females separately so theres room for thought :)
Top 5 Characters I Don’t Understand
Male
Wesley Wyndam Pryce - okay, so this is only from mid-Season 3 onward, but I cannot fathom Wesley’s actions in stealing Connor, consulting with Holtz and doubting/not believing in Angel to the point where he didn’t realise that Angel would do everything in his power to protect Connor. Then his self-righteous attitude post-kidnap is appalling, the fact that he acts like the wronged party and refuses to acknowledge his own wrongdoings and never apologises for his actions all drive me crazy. Just can’t.
Luke Danes, I mean, buddy, pull it together. You say you want Lorelai, yet never make a move and then bitch about her boyfriends and act like a jerk. You say you’re “all in” and then you run at the first sign of trouble and make Lorelai feel like she did something wrong. You tell Lorelai you want her to be honest with you and then you hide your daughter from her for two freakin’ months. You say you want to spend your life with her, yet you shut her out of it. Like, wtf??
Fitzgerald Thomas Grant III, omg, why is he such an abusive asshole? Why does he treat every woman he’s with like crap? Why does he treat Mellie as if she’s insignificant and stupid? Why does he act entitled to everyone’s time and affections? Why does he continually try to give up the most powerful position in America? Why doesn’t he have any ambition? Why does he resent anyone who does??? I don’t understand.
John Winchester. Dude’s always going on about how he “did the best that he could”. Nope. The best he could would have been to raise his boys in a stable freakin’ environment, not push adult responsibility onto his eldest, not treat his youngest like an outcast/freak for wanting a better life and actually being an adult and being there for his boys. How does he justify the way he treated his sons? Don’t get it.
Finn Collins. Dude, you cheat on your girlfriend, neglect to tell the girl you’re cheating with that you even have a girlfriend, don’t tell your girlfriend you cheated on her and expect both girls to still want you? Plus the whole massacring eighteen unarmed people and then ignoring their bodies as the girl you want walks in horrified and look at her as if she’ll love you for your actions? Yikes.
Female
Lorelai Gilmore, she constantly puts her mother down for her privilege and sense of entitlement, yet displays the exact same behaviour. She rejected Chris, then bitches about how he “wasn’t ready”. She thinks all her behaviour is cute but it’s actually really annoying. And she honestly seems to believe that her parents were the absolute worst parents in the world, when it reality they were really good to her and always try to be a part of her life. Pull it together, woman!
Octavia Blake, why does she blame her brother for everything? Why is her solution always violence? Why does she proudly cannibalize people? Why does she think she knows more about a culture she’s been a part of for two seconds than the people actually raised in said culture?
Nancy Wheeler. Why does she want Jonathan so badly? Why does she screw over Steve? What makes her neglect her brother and run off with the guy she just banged? Why doesn’t she think through the consequences of her actions? Why did she offer her brother zero comfort when his friend “died”? What made her think it was okay to chase down Jonathan while he was picking out a coffin for his brother’s funeral to talk about Barb? Girl drives me bonkers.
Joey Potter, so many of her actions make no sense. She pines after Dawson for years and then breaks up with him for literally no reason. She blames him for telling her the truth about her father, after repeatedly saying they need to be honest with one another. She can’t decide between two guys for years. She constantly rejects Pacey yet picks him in the end. She believes she’s entitled to be a bitch to people just because she’s had a tough life.
Aria Montgomery, if your creepy-ass relationship really so important to you that you would lie to your friends and family, threaten your parents, risk your partner going to jail, threaten to walk out on your family and basically cease to exist outside of your boyfriend? Yikes.
Going to put the rest under the cut, otherwise we’re going to end up with a post a mile long.
Top 5 Characters Who Are Well-writen But I Can’t Connect To or Like
Male
John Locke, a great-written character who drives me up the wall with his over-zealousness and delusions of grandeur.
Spike, he really does have a great character arc and characterisation but his over-exposure and the fandom’s adulation of him drive me crazy, plus I hate how his narrative overtakes Buffy’s.
Jack Shepherd, such a great arc, such an amazing journey but his douchey behaviour and the way he treats certain characters means I just can’t like him.
Perry Cox, I find him amusing and do occasionally like him but his lack of self-awareness and overall mean attitude and sexism bugs me.
Dean Winchester, so well-written with a great arc but also abusive, violent, self-righteous, sexist and overall annoying as hell.
Female
Regina Mills, her redemption arc is sloppy but her characterisation was always strong and she’s a fantastic villain, which is why I love to hate her.
Robin Scherbatsky, very well-written with a great arc (until the finale) but I just cannot like her, probably due to her arrogance and meanness.
Rachel Green, now, I don’t hate Rachel or anything but she’s one of my least-favourite Friends characters and I’ve never been able to connect with her.
Katniss Everdeen, a great-written character whose personality I find very hard to reconcile and who I just cannot connect with.
Kate Austin, great arc, great characterisation, full of traits I can’t stand and makes choices that make me want to throttle her.
Top 5 Characters Storylines I Would Like To Alter
Male
Neal Cassidy, he was done so dirty by that damn show!
August Booth, another one screwed over by OUAT and there was so much left to explore with his character!
Dean Forrester, I really hate how much Gilmore Girls dumbled down and assassinated his character.
Boyd Langton, Dollhouse’s weird out-of-nowhere reveal that he was the bad guy completely changed his character and he didn’t deserve that.
Jake Ballard, he deserves better than being second-choice for Olivia Pope.
Female
Laurel Lance, who deserved the fucking world and got nothing, I would change so much about her storyline and eventual fate.
Mellie Grant who, like Laurel, deserved so much and got shit.
Emma Swan, who was character assassinated in order to box her into a toxic ship which decimated everything about her.
Juliet Burke, who should have lived and had a happy life and finally made it off that damn Island!
Effy Stonem, who deserved better than to be sandwiched between two guys who treated her like a prize and blamed her for their rivalry, not to mention the shitty “friends” who used her as their scapegoat.
Top 5 Traits Of My Disliked Characters That I Like (I’m not going to pick my absolute most disliked characters for this, but just 5 characters I dislike in general. Also, probably can’t come up with five for each, so I’ll go with as many as I can list).
Male
Going with Wesley again - love his intelligence, his surprising confidence when he allows himself to show it, his thirst for knowledge and his goofiness.
Spike - I like his bravado, his confidence and his loyalty.
Dean Winchester - similarly to Spike, his bravado, his loyalty and his confidence, as well as his humour and love of fun.
Luke Danes - I like that he’s good at the big gestures, I like his snark and his homebody nature.
Jess Mariano - I like intelligence, his snark and the fact that he sorts himself out later on in life.
Female
Anya Jenkins - love her work ethic and the fact that she handles money well and knows how to budget, save and invest.
Betty Cooper - she’s got gumption, I’ll give her that and she is intelligent and hardworking.
Felicity Smoak - like Betty, she’s intelligent and has gumption.
Cassie from the Animorphs series - she’s compassionate and does try to understand people, which I like. She also has a lot of empathy.
Alison DiLaurentis - she is ruthless and strategic and highly intelligent, all of which I admire, even if her actions are truly sociopathic.
Top 5 Traits Of My Loved Characters I Dislike (again, this may not reach five but I’ll do my best)
Male
Angel - his tendency to make decisions for others, his jealousy, the way he can completely cut off those he cares about.
James Ford - the way he lets his self-hatred affect others, his self-centredness, the way he can be deliberately cruel at times.
August Booth - he lies way too much, his self-hatred, his selfishness.
Neal Cassidy ………….. nope, I love Neal too much, can’t think of any traits I dislike.
Charles Gunn - the way he diminishes himself for others.
Female
Prue Halliwell - that damn pride, her self-righteousness, her judgmental streak.
Juliet Burke ……………. nope, as with Neal, love her way too much to dislike anything about her.
Lana Lang - her Mary Sue traits (this lies more on the writing of her character than her), her tendency to project her own feelings onto others.
Lilah Morgan - well, she’s an evil bitch, but you’re supposed to hate her for that, so I more hate her actions than her herself, such as when she gives Cordy the visions which almost kill her or when she sends people to drill into Lorn’s head.
Jo March - her lack of propriety at times, her judgemental streak, her refusal to adhere to convention (at times)
Top 5 Ways My Disliked Characters Contributed To The Main Storyline That I’m Fine With (I am running out of steam and not sure if I can come up with 5 males and 5 females, so gonna combine them for this last one and again might not make it to Top 5)
Alison DiLaurentis - I like her as a villain, her murder kicks off the whole series which worked well, and I liked that she works as a foil for all the girls, in particular Hanna and Mona.
Spike - love him as a villain in Season 2, love that he works as a foil for Angel in AtS Season 5, liked him stirring things up in Lovers Walk in Season 3.
Regina Mills - love her as a villain, love her as the Curse Caster, liked her dynamic with Emma, liked her as a foil for Snow and Emma.
……. I actually might be out, as usually when I hate a character it’s because of the way in which they negatively impact the storyline.
Whew, I’m knackered. Hope you enjoy my answers, even if they’re not 100% what you asked for!
